Search Bar

Use the Search bar to quickly navigate to a location. Users may search by an address, street, city, landmark name, or latitude and longitude coordinates.

  • Tap the Search widget in the widget toolbar

  • Use the search bar to type an address, street, city, landmark name, or latitude and longitude coordinates.



  • Auto-predict will begin to populate as you type



  • Use the drop-down to select any configured Geocode Services



  • Tap the Magnifying Glass icon to search


My Location

The My Location tool allows VEP Verify to zoom to the device location. Users will need to enable app permissions on their mobile device to allow VEP Verify to use their location.

  • Tap the My Location widget to zoom into the device location



  • Tap the widget again to disable it



Review Tool

The Review Tool allows Editors to view and manage anomalies in VEP Verify.

  • Tap the Review Tool widget in the widget toolbar



  • Use the following fields to configure an anomaly search:

Type - Choose Address Anomalies, Centerline Anomalies, Boundary Anomalies, or MSAG/ALI Anomalies

Validation Date - Choose a specific validation data to review

Exception - Choose if the results will be anomalies marked with or without an Exception status

Validation (Optional)-  Filter the search by a specific validation type


  • Once the fields are filled out, tap Search

  • The results of the configured search will display

  • Tap Zoom  to view the markup feature on the map

  • Tap Details to review the markup feature details in a pop-up



  • To mark an anomaly as an Exception, use a finger to scroll the table to the right

  • Tap the Exception checkbox



  • Select Save Changes  to save the Exception




Layer List

Use the Layer List to manage what layers are displayed on the map. Uploaded data, observations, detached editing polygons, anomalies, and map services can be managed from the layer list. Some layers have zoom levels specified, if the layer is grey and not viewable on the map, zoom to layer or zoom in until the features are displayed.

Turning Map Layers On and Off

  • Select the Layer List tool to view the list of available map layers. The Layer List contains groupings of layers available for display on the web map. Expand/Collapse layer groups to view the layers within each grouping.

  • Check/Uncheck layers to display their features on the map.



Enabling Pop-ups

Pop-ups are small windows that will display the layer attributes a feature is selected in the map. Pop-ups are enabled, by default, for Address Points and Road Centerlines.

  • Select the ellipsis icon, next to the layer name to open a list of options and select Enable pop-up.

  • Use this same workflow to Disable pop-up



  • Select a feature from that layer to display the pop-up.

  • At the bottom of the pop-up, related tables are displayed. Select a related table to view related table attributes for the associated feature in the pop-up



Add A Marker

Markers add a map symbol and an auto-generated latitude and longitude coordinate set on the Web map for the feature selected in the attributes window. To add a Marker:

  • Select the ellipsis icon, next to the layer name to open a list of options and select Add a Marker.


  • A marker symbol will automatically drop on the map, from the selected feature in the attribute-window



  • Clicking on the marker symbol will display the latitude and longitude coordinate values and other attributes, if applicable.

  • To remove the marker symbol, select the ellipsis icon and select Remove Marker.



View in Attribute Table

For each feature in the Layer List, users can view the tabular data in the Attribute Table

  • Select the ellipsis icon, next to the layer name to open a list of options and select View in Attribute Table.



  • In the lower half of the mobile device, the Attribute Table will appear and the tab for the selected map layer will display the layer attributes in tabular format.

  • Double-tap on the row header for a record in the Attributes Table will zoom and re-center the map to that feature.


Measurement Tool

Measure Area

  • Select the Measurement Tool.



  • Select the Measure Area tool in the header of the measurement tool.



  • Set the measurement display unit.

  • Touch the map to add points to draw a polygon. As points are added, the area will be displayed underneath "Measurement Result" in the toolbox.

  • Double-tap the map to complete the shape and get its total area.  



Measure Distance

  • Select the Measurement Tool.



  • Select the Distance Tool in the header of the measurement tool.



  • Set the measurement display unit.

  • Touch the map to add points to draw a line. As points are added, the distance will be displayed underneath "Measurement Result" in the toolbox.

  • Double-tap the map to complete the line and get its total distance.



Determine Coordinates of a Point

  • Select the Measurement Tool.



  • Select the Location Tool in the header of the measurement tool.



  • Set the coordinate display unit.

  • Touch the map to add a point. Once a point is placed, noted with a green icon, the coordinates will be displayed at the bottom of the "Measurement Result" list.



Bookmark Tool

If a particular area is frequently accessed, use the Bookmark tool to save the map extent for future reference. VEP Verify supports two types of bookmarks - Private and Shared. Users with access to the Web map can create bookmarks to save their own map extents or share them within the organization to promote group collaboration.


Go to a Bookmark

  • Open the Bookmark tool.

  • Click on the bookmark thumbnail to zoom to the saved location.

Create a Bookmark – Private or Shared

  • Zoom and pan to the desired map extent.

  • Open the Bookmark tool.



  • Touch the Add button.



  • A pop-up window will appear that prompts the user to enter a Bookmark name (required) and specify whether the Access Type is Private (default) or Shared bookmark.

    • Private bookmarks are only viewable by the user who created them

    • Shared bookmarks are viewable by any user with access to the Web map



  • The bookmark is added to the Bookmark window and includes a snapshot thumbnail of the map extent.



  • Use the Sort Bookmarks by Name tool to sort bookmarks in ascending order by clicking the up/down arrow icon. Click again to sort bookmarks by name in descending order. 



Edit a bookmark

  • Tapping on the pencil icon will open the Edit Bookmark window, allowing users to rename the Bookmark Name or change the Access Type.

  • Selecting the arrows icon will open the mobile device’s image gallery, allowing the selection of an alternative thumbnail image.



Deleting a Bookmark

  • Select the X icon to the right of the bookmark thumbnail to delete the bookmark. A pop-up message will appear confirming the deletion was completed successfully.


Basemap Gallery

The Basemap Gallery allows users to select a different basemap to display in VEP Verify.

  • Tap the Basemap Gallery widget from the widget toolbar



  • Select a basemap to apply it to the map.
